Employing someone full time, or booking visits?

A straight comparison, including the parts that are legally your responsibility either way.

The Xoot team

Start with the pattern of work

The right choice depends on the work you need and the relationship you want. Occasional cleaning and an ongoing role in a household are different arrangements. Neither should be sold as a universal answer.

Write down the days, hours and duties you need before comparing prices. Childcare, cooking and other household responsibilities should not silently be added to a cleaning brief.

When booked visits may fit

Visits can fit a changing schedule, an occasional reset or a defined cleaning task. You still need clear service scope, availability and cancellation terms. A platform cannot promise a particular person or replacement until availability is confirmed.

Compare the full quoted amount and selected service. Do not assume damage cover, childcare or full-time placement is included because another provider offers it.

When an ongoing employment arrangement may fit

A household needing consistent, broad support across the week may prefer a direct ongoing relationship. That choice carries employment responsibilities that do not disappear because an arrangement is informal or described as a booking.

Check the actual relationship and current South African rules. Written terms, wages, leave, UIF and other employer duties need proper attention where applicable. Booking through an app is not, by itself, a legal classification.

Check the rules before deciding

The South African Government's UIF guidance says an employee, including a domestic worker, working for you for more than 24 hours a month must be registered for UIF. Use the current official guidance for the arrangement you are considering.

Official UIF registration guidance: https://www.gov.za/faq/government-services/how-do-i-register-my-domestic-worker-uif. This is a starting point for checking responsibilities, not a substitute for advice about your particular employment arrangement.

Quick answers

Does using an app remove every employment responsibility?

No. The actual relationship matters. Check the current rules and responsibilities that apply to your arrangement rather than relying on the label used to book.

Does Xoot guarantee the same cleaner on every visit?

No. Favourite-Xooter and repeat-request workflows remain subject to actual availability. A particular Xooter is not guaranteed.
