What is actually in a deep clean, and what is not
The word deep is doing a lot of unpaid work in this industry. Here is what it should mean.

Why the word is unreliable
Deep clean is not a defined standard. One company means inside the oven and behind the fridge; another means the same clean with more time.
So the useful question is never is this deep. It is what is on the list, and what is not.
What it should include
Inside appliances — oven, fridge, microwave. Behind and under what can be moved safely. Skirtings, door frames, light switches, the tops of things nobody looks at.
Bathroom descaling rather than wiping. Interior windows and sills. Cupboard interiors if they are empty enough to reach.
What it usually does not, and should be said
Exterior windows above ground floor, anything needing a ladder, carpet extraction, upholstery, and moving heavy furniture alone.
None of those are unreasonable to want. They are just different jobs, and a company that quietly implies they are included is setting up a disappointment on the day.
How to brief one so you get what you wanted
Name the two or three things that would make you feel it was worth it, and put them in the notes before the day. Almost nobody does this, and it is the single biggest difference between a clean that lands and one that disappoints.
Be specific about what to leave alone as well. A shelf you would rather nobody rearranged, a cupboard that is private. Saying so is not fussy — it is the information that lets someone do the job confidently.
